Processors equipped with Enhanced Speedstep Technology are able to dynamically adjust their clock speed in order to conserve power and reduce heat. Rather then waste energy and produce extra heat running at full power even when it isn't needed, EIST processors can adjust to run exactly as fast as they need too. This especially makes them useful in situations where energy usage is extremely important, such as mobile computer systems. Intel Pentium processors are equipped with EIST technology since the Pentium III processor. An Enhanced EIST technology was more recently developed for use in modern multi-core central processing units.
