How to Clean a Processor

A clean computer is less likely to malfunction, crash and lose data than one that suffers from problems with built-up dirt and dust. However, you can keep your computer running smoothly by keeping its processor clean.

  1. First: Necessary materials

In order to clean your computer’s processor, you are going to need a soft, clean cloth, computer cleaning fluid, compressed air, pre-treated computer wipes and a vacuum cleaner with a special cleaning attachment.

  2. Second: Cleaning

Keep the CPU off of the floor, and put it on a solid surface to keep it from accumulating more dust. Allow it to cool; low operating temperatures can increase the processor’s longevity, as processing failures are usually caused by the expansion and contraction of the working parts. Vacuum the cooling slot. Wipe down the casing with a soft cloth dampened with a specialized fluid made just for cleaning computers. Do not spray the equipment; spray the cloth and wipe the equipment instead. Always make sure to dry the processor after you have cleaned it.

  3. Third: Cleaning inside

If you clean inside, remove the casing and only used compressed air, as it takes very little for a brush, vacuum or cloth to cause damage or destroy the processor with a small charge of static electricity. Before you do anything that involves removing any part of the computer, even if you intend to put it back, make sure that taking it apart does not void its warranty; cleaning a computer by taking it apart yourself often causes manufactures to void their warranties.
